A sports physical, also known as a pre-participation physical examination (PPE), evaluates your overall health and fitness before you join a sports team or athletic program. Schools, leagues, and recreational organizations across Miami-Dade County typically require a current sports physical before athletes can practice or compete.
The exam checks your heart, lungs, joints, and overall physical condition to identify any issues that could put you at risk during physical activity. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends these exams for all young athletes.
Your sports physical at TrufaMED includes a thorough review of your medical history and a hands-on physical examination. Your physician will check your vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, and vision. The doctor also examines your heart and lungs, evaluates your joints and flexibility, and assesses your overall musculoskeletal health.
If the physician identifies any concerns, they will discuss them with you on the spot and recommend any follow-up care. Most patients receive their completed sports physical forms the same day.
Sports physicals are required for student athletes participating in school-sponsored sports programs throughout Florida. They are also commonly needed for recreational league athletes and adults joining organized sports, gym memberships, and fitness programs. Summer camp participants often require physicals as well.

TrufaMED offers travel medicine consultations to help you understand what vaccines and precautions your destination requires.
During your travel consultation, your physician reviews your itinerary, medical history, and vaccination records. Based on your specific travel plans, we recommend any necessary vaccines, prescriptions, or preventive medications.
Depending on your destination, you may need vaccines for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, yellow fever, or other travel-related illnesses. Your physician may also recommend antimalarial medications, altitude sickness prevention, or traveler's diarrhea treatment kits.
We keep many travel vaccines in stock so you can receive them during the same visit. For vaccines that require multiple doses, we will create a timeline that fits your departure date.

A sports physical typically includes vital signs, vision check, cardiac auscultation, lung exam, musculoskeletal evaluation, joint range-of-motion testing, neurological screening, and a review of past injuries, medications, and family cardiac history. The exam follows the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association guidelines for pre-participation evaluation.
