IS THIS FOR YOU?

Who Should Get Screened.

Routine sexual health screening is a responsible and entirely normal part of adult wellness. Many infections carry no symptoms — making regular testing the only reliable way to know your status and protect the people you care about.

Sexually Active Adults
Routine annual screening is recommended for all sexually active adults. Certain situations — multiple partners, inconsistent protection — call for more frequent screening.
New Partnerships
Starting a new relationship is a natural time for both partners to confirm their status. A quick screening visit gives mutual confidence and peace of mind.
Routine Wellness
Annual sexual health screening is a standard component of adult preventive care — no different from a cholesterol check or blood pressure reading. Normalize it; own your health.
Pre-Exposure or Travel
Planning international travel or considering PrEP? A baseline sexual health panel is recommended before and after travel, and as part of PrEP initiation and monitoring.
Pregnancy Planning
Sexual health screening is a standard part of preconception care. Certain infections can impact fertility and pregnancy outcomes — early identification and treatment matters.
Post-Exposure Concern
If you’ve had a potential exposure, come in promptly. Our physicians can order the appropriate post-exposure screening and discuss time-sensitive preventive options where applicable.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Sexual Health Screening FAQ.

Is sexual health screening at TrufaMED confidential?

Absolutely. All testing and results are 100% confidential and HIPAA-protected. We never share your results with anyone — including partners, family members, or employers — without your explicit written consent. Results are communicated directly to you by your physician. If you prefer complete insurance privacy, self-pay options are available at a transparent upfront rate.

Do I need an appointment for sexual health screening?

No. TrufaMED accepts walk-in patients seven days a week during clinic hours: Monday through Friday 9 AM to 9 PM, Saturday 11 AM to 11 PM, and Sunday 12 PM to 8 PM. You can also book a same-day appointment online via JaneApp or call (305) 537-6396 to reserve a specific time slot.

How quickly will I receive my results?

Turnaround time depends on the test. Rapid HIV preliminary screening returns results in approximately 20 minutes in-clinic. Standard laboratory-confirmed testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis, herpes, and trichomoniasis typically returns results within 24 to 72 hours. Your physician will contact you confidentially when results are available.

What tests does the complete sexual health panel include?

Our comprehensive panel includes screening for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV (1, 2, and p24 antigen), hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), and trichomoniasis. Individual tests can also be ordered if you have a specific concern. Your physician will recommend the appropriate panel based on your history and risk profile.

Can I receive treatment at TrufaMED if a result is positive?

Yes. If any result comes back positive, your physician will discuss treatment options with you the same day. Most bacterial conditions — including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis — can be treated with prescriptions written and filled on-site. For conditions requiring specialist follow-up or longer-term management, your physician will coordinate an appropriate referral.

Does TrufaMED accept insurance for sexual health screening?

Yes. TrufaMED accepts most major insurance plans including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, and Medicare. We also offer transparent self-pay pricing for patients without insurance or those who prefer not to bill through insurance. HSA and FSA payments are accepted. Please note we do not currently accept . Call us to verify your specific plan.

What ages do you see for sexual health screening?

TrufaMED provides sexual health screening for adult patients. If you have questions about the appropriate age for a specific test or situation, please call us at (305) 537-6396 and one of our clinical team members will assist you.

Can I come in for screening only — without having symptoms?

Yes, and we encourage it. The majority of patients who benefit from sexual health screening have no symptoms at all. Many infections are entirely asymptomatic and can only be detected through laboratory testing. Routine screening without symptoms is exactly what proactive sexual health care looks like.

How often should I get screened?

Clinical guidelines generally recommend annual sexual health screening for sexually active adults. More frequent screening — every three to six months — is recommended if you have multiple partners, inconsistent protection use, or specific risk factors. Your TrufaMED physician will provide personalized guidance based on your individual history during your visit.

What is the difference between rapid testing and send-out laboratory testing?

Rapid point-of-care tests — such as the rapid HIV antibody/antigen test — use a small sample to return a preliminary result in approximately 20 minutes, in-clinic. These are highly accurate but may require confirmatory laboratory testing in certain clinical scenarios. Standard send-out laboratory tests are processed in our on-site Joint Commission–accredited, CLIA-certified lab or a partnered reference laboratory and return results within 24 to 72 hours with full clinical-grade accuracy.

Can I test for a specific condition only — such as HIV or chlamydia?

Yes. You are not required to order a full panel. If you have a specific concern — for example, HIV screening after a potential exposure, or chlamydia and gonorrhea screening after unprotected contact — your physician can order individual tests tailored to your situation. There is no minimum panel requirement.

Is there always a physician at TrufaMED?

Yes. A board-certified physician is on duty at TrufaMED during all operating hours — every day of the week. You will always be seen or directly supervised by a physician, not a nurse practitioner or physician assistant acting independently. This is one of the defining differences between TrufaMED and conventional walk-in clinics.

Do you offer PrEP consultation alongside screening?

Yes. Our physicians can discuss HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) options as part of your visit. A baseline sexual health panel is a clinical prerequisite for initiating PrEP, and we can order the appropriate screening, discuss medication options, and connect you with ongoing PrEP monitoring care.

CLINICAL CONTEXT

Why Regular Screening Matters.

Removing every barrier to screening is a clinical responsibility. These are the conditions we catch and why catching them early changes outcomes.

The Absence of Symptoms Is Not the Absence of Disease

A substantial proportion of chlamydia and gonorrhea infections produce no symptoms at all. Without routine laboratory testing, months or years can pass before detection — during which time infection may progress, affect fertility, or spread to others unknowingly.

HIV: Caught Earlier Than Ever Before

Fourth-generation combo testing detects infection as early as 18 to 45 days after exposure — significantly earlier than antibody-only methods. Patients placed on antiretroviral therapy early achieve undetectable viral loads, eliminating sexual transmission risk and restoring near-normal life expectancy. The window between exposure and diagnosis is where the outcome is decided.

Syphilis: Curable Early, Serious If Ignored

Syphilis has seen a dramatic resurgence across the U.S., with South Florida among the regions seeing significant increases. Early-stage syphilis is entirely curable with a single penicillin injection. Left untreated, it can progress to serious neurological and cardiovascular complications over years.

Herpes: Knowing Changes the Conversation

HSV affects a large proportion of the adult population, with many people unaware of their status. Type-specific IgG serology detects antibodies to HSV-1 and HSV-2 even without visible symptoms. Understanding your status informs partner conversations and guides decisions about suppressive antiviral therapy.

Hepatitis B & C: Preventable and Curable

Both can be transmitted through sexual contact and unrecognized exposures. Hepatitis B vaccination is highly effective for unvaccinated adults. Hepatitis C has an effective cure with direct-acting antivirals but often goes undiagnosed for years because it rarely causes acute symptoms.

The TrufaMED Standard

Walk-in, no appointment. Transparent self-pay pricing. Board-certified physicians interpret and communicate every result — with the full authority of an MD, not a phone script from a lab. Sexual health is health. Screening is routine. TrufaMED makes it easy.

What Sexual Health Tests Does TrufaMED Offer?

TrufaMED provides a comprehensive range of confidential health screenings to meet every patient’s needs. Our testing menu includes individual tests for specific concerns as well as full-panel screenings for a complete picture of your sexual health. All testing is performed on-site at our Surfside clinic using the same certified laboratory methods used by hospitals and major medical centers across Miami-Dade County.

Our standard sexual health panel covers chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV (1 and 2), hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 and HSV-2), and trichomoniasis. For patients who want targeted testing, we also offer individual tests so you only pay for what you need. Rapid HIV testing delivers results in approximately 20 minutes, while most other tests return within 24 to 48 hours through our partner laboratory.

We also offer urine-based testing, blood draws, and swab collection depending on the type of screening required. Our clinical team will walk you through the appropriate collection method for each test, ensuring accurate results and a comfortable experience from start to finish.

When Should You Get Tested?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that all sexually active adults get tested at least once a year for common infections, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. If you have multiple partners, engage in unprotected intercourse, or have a new sexual partner, more frequent testing every three to six months is advisable. Many infections are asymptomatic, meaning you can carry and transmit an infection without knowing it.

You should also consider testing if you experience symptoms such as unusual discharge, burning during urination, sores or bumps in the genital area, pelvic pain, or unexplained rashes. However, waiting for symptoms is not a reliable strategy, since infections like chlamydia and HPV often present no symptoms at all, particularly in the early stages.

TrufaMED recommends testing after any potential exposure, even if you feel fine. Early detection allows for prompt treatment, prevents complications like pelvic inflammatory disease or infertility, and protects your partners from unknowing transmission. Walk into our Surfside clinic any day of the week — no appointment is required, and results are handled with complete confidentiality.

Treatment Available On-Site

If your results come back positive, TrufaMED provides same-day treatment for most common infections right here in our clinic. Bacterial infections like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are treated with antibiotics, and our physicians can prescribe the appropriate medication immediately after your results are confirmed. For viral infections like herpes, our team will develop a management plan including antiviral prescriptions and guidance on reducing transmission risk.

We also provide partner notification support, helping you navigate the conversation about informing current or recent sexual partners so they can get tested and treated as well. This is an important public health step, and our staff handles every aspect with discretion and respect for your privacy.

Serving All of Miami Beach, Surfside, and Beyond

TrufaMED’s sexual health testing services are available to patients from across Miami-Dade County. Our clinic in Surfside is conveniently located near Miami Beach, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Sunny Isles Beach, Aventura, and North Miami Beach. We are open seven days a week with no appointment necessary, making it easy to get tested on your schedule, whether that is before work, during lunch, or on the weekend.

As Florida’s only Joint Commission-accredited urgent care facility, TrufaMED meets the highest national standards for patient safety, privacy, and clinical quality. When you choose TrufaMED for sexual health testing, you are choosing a facility that treats every patient with the same level of care and confidentiality you would expect from a private physician’s office — but with the convenience and affordability of a walk-in clinic.
