About this testing

Know exactly what you have, the same day

When cold and flu symptoms hit, what you are actually fighting changes everything: the treatment your physician prescribes, and how long you should stay home from work or school. Our on-site CLIA-certified lab runs rapid tests for the four most common respiratory infections, COVID-19, influenza A and B, strep throat, and RSV, with results in about 15 minutes. A board-certified physician reads the result and treats you before you leave.

Rapid antigen tests deliver answers in as little as 10 to 15 minutes, so your physician can diagnose accurately and start treatment in the same visit. When you need higher sensitivity, for travel clearance, return-to-work documentation, or pre-procedure screening, we also offer PCR testing with results typically back within 24 to 48 hours. If your illness needs more, such as IV hydration for dehydration or an on-site digital X-ray to rule out pneumonia, those are available right away, with no referral and no second appointment.

Results in minutes

Rapid antigen panels for COVID, flu, strep, and RSV read in 10 to 15 minutes during your visit. You leave knowing the answer and the plan, not waiting days for a callback.

CLIA-certified on-site lab

Our laboratory (CLIA #10D2326945) meets the same quality standards required of hospital labs. TrufaMED is also the only Joint Commission-accredited urgent care in Florida.

Physician-ordered, treated same visit

A board-certified physician evaluates your symptoms, orders the right tests, explains the result, and prescribes treatment, all in one visit. This is a clinical evaluation, not a drop-in swab counter.

What we test for

Four respiratory illnesses, one visit

The four infections below account for most winter and travel-season illness in South Florida. We test each by rapid antigen for a fast answer, with PCR available when you need higher sensitivity or official documentation.

COVID-19

Nasal-swab rapid antigen with results in about 15 minutes, plus high-sensitivity PCR for travel and clearance. A positive result comes with isolation guidance and treatment options.

Antigen 15 min · PCR 24 to 48 hours

Influenza A and B

A nasal swab with results in roughly 15 minutes. Caught within the first 48 hours of symptoms, flu can be treated with an antiviral such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu) to shorten and soften the illness.

Results in about 15 minutes

Strep throat (Group A)

A quick throat swab, uncomfortable but over in seconds, with results in 10 to 15 minutes. A positive strep result prompts an antibiotic prescription on the spot, since strep is bacterial.

Results in 10 to 15 minutes

RSV

A nasal swab for respiratory syncytial virus, especially important for children under 5 and adults over 65, who face the highest risk of complications from RSV.

Results in about 15 minutes

The 4-in-1 respiratory panel

If you have fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, or shortness of breath and you are not sure which virus is causing it, you do not have to guess. Our physicians can run a single 4-in-1 panel that tests for COVID, flu A and B, strep, and RSV at the same time. It saves a step and gives your physician the fastest path to the right treatment: an antiviral such as Paxlovid or Tamiflu, an antibiotic when strep is confirmed, or supportive care. For dehydration from fever or vomiting, in-clinic IV hydration is available the same visit.

When to get tested

Symptoms and situations that warrant a test

If any of these sound like you, a quick swab gives your physician the answer needed to treat correctly and tell you when it is safe to return to work or school.

Fever and body aches

A sudden fever above 100.4°F with muscle aches, chills, and fatigue. These are hallmark signs of flu or COVID-19, and a rapid test confirms which one.

Sore throat without a cough

A severe sore throat with painful swallowing, swollen lymph nodes, and fever but little cough or congestion often points to strep, which needs an antibiotic.

Cough and congestion

Persistent cough, congestion, wheezing, or shortness of breath, especially in young children or older adults, can indicate RSV or flu and benefits from a specific diagnosis.

Travel or work clearance

Many employers, schools, and destinations require a documented negative test. We provide rapid and PCR testing with official results you can use for clearance.

A known exposure

If a household member, coworker, or classmate has tested positive, getting tested, even before symptoms appear, helps you start treatment early and avoid spreading it.

Symptoms that return or worsen

Symptoms that improve and then suddenly worsen can signal a secondary bacterial infection or a different virus. Re-testing pinpoints the cause so treatment can be adjusted.

What to expect

From walk-in to answer in four steps

We move quickly, because we know you feel terrible and want answers. Most patients are evaluated, swabbed, and given a result and a plan in a single short visit.

Walk in or book

Arrive on your schedule

No referral and no appointment required. Walk in seven days a week, or reserve a time online through our registration portal to keep your wait short.

Physician evaluation

A clinician reviews your symptoms

A medical provider checks your symptoms, history, and exposure risk and decides which tests fit. Most patients get a combination of rapid antigen testing and a clinical exam.

Quick swab

Nasal or throat swab

COVID, flu, and RSV use a nasal swab; strep uses a fast throat swab. Collection takes under a minute, and rapid results read in 10 to 15 minutes.

Result and treatment

Diagnosis and a plan

Your physician explains the result and treats you the same visit: an antiviral, an antibiotic for strep, isolation guidance for COVID, or IV fluids if you are dehydrated.

Rapid or PCR

Which test is right for you?

Both tests are accurate when used the right way. Your physician picks based on your symptoms and what you need the result for, and will tell you plainly when one is the better choice.

Rapid antigen test

  • Reads in 10 to 15 minutes during your visit
  • Best when you are clearly symptomatic
  • Detects viral proteins for a fast answer
  • Drives same-visit diagnosis and treatment

PCR test

  • Higher sensitivity, catches early infection
  • Detects viral genetic material
  • Results typically in 24 to 48 hours
  • Required for most travel and clearance

Travel testing: we provide physician-signed COVID-19 PCR documentation for departures through Miami International (MIA), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL), and the Port of Miami. Tell us your travel date at check-in so we can time the test to your destination’s rules.

Meet the clinical team

Respiratory testing, answered

What patients across Miami, Miami Beach, Bal Harbour, and Surfside ask before getting tested.

How fast will I get my test results?

Rapid antigen tests for COVID-19, flu A and B, strep A, and RSV read in 10 to 15 minutes during your visit, so your physician can explain the result and start treatment before you leave. PCR tests offer higher sensitivity and typically return within 24 to 48 hours. Your physician recommends the right test type based on your symptoms and what you need the result for.

Do I need an appointment to get tested?

No. TrufaMED accepts walk-in testing seven days a week for all rapid and PCR panels, at 9445 Harding Ave in Surfside. You can also book online through our registration portal if you prefer a set time and a shorter wait. We are open Monday to Friday 9 AM to 9 PM, Saturday 11 AM to 11 PM, and Sunday 12 PM to 8 PM.

What is the difference between a rapid test and a PCR test?

Rapid antigen tests detect viral proteins and read in minutes, which makes them ideal for an on-the-spot clinical decision when you are symptomatic. PCR tests detect viral genetic material, so they are more sensitive and can catch an infection earlier or at a lower viral load. PCR takes longer to result but is often what travel, return-to-work, and pre-surgical screening require. Your physician will tell you honestly which one fits your situation.

Which respiratory illness should I test for?

If you are not sure, you do not have to choose. Fever and body aches with chills point to flu or COVID-19. A severe sore throat with painful swallowing and no cough often points to strep. Cough, congestion, and wheezing, especially in young children or older adults, can mean RSV. When the picture is mixed, our physicians can run a single 4-in-1 respiratory panel that checks for COVID, flu A and B, strep, and RSV at once.

Does insurance cover COVID, flu, strep, and RSV testing?

Most major insurance plans cover diagnostic respiratory testing when a physician orders it based on your symptoms or a known exposure. Our front desk can verify your benefits before testing. For uninsured patients, we offer transparent self-pay pricing with no surprise billing: a rapid flu or strep test starts at $60, and the physician visit starts at $195 if you are seen and evaluated.

Can I get a COVID test for travel?

Yes. We provide both rapid antigen and PCR COVID-19 testing for travel, including physician-signed result letters that meet most airline and international requirements. We routinely document travelers departing through Miami International (MIA), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL), and the Port of Miami. Tell us your travel date at check-in so we can time the right test for your destination’s rules.

Can you test my child?

Yes. We test children of all ages, and our team is experienced with quick, gentle swabs for younger patients. RSV testing matters most in infants and toddlers, who face the highest risk of serious complications, and strep is common in school-age children. A board-certified physician is on shift every day to evaluate and treat pediatric patients in the same visit.

Can I be treated in the same visit if I test positive?

Yes, and that is the point of testing here rather than at a standalone swab site. A positive flu test within the first 48 hours of symptoms can mean an antiviral such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu). A positive strep result prompts an antibiotic prescription on the spot. A positive COVID result comes with isolation guidance and treatment options. If you are dehydrated from fever or vomiting, in-clinic IV hydration is available right away.

How is TrufaMED testing different from a standalone testing site?

Standalone sites collect a sample and report a number. TrufaMED gives you a full clinical evaluation: a board-certified physician assesses your symptoms, orders the right tests, interprets the result, and prescribes treatment, all in one visit. Our on-site laboratory is CLIA certified (CLIA #10D2326945) to the same standard required of hospital labs, and TrufaMED is the only Joint Commission-accredited urgent care in Florida. If you need a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia or IV fluids, those are available immediately, with no referral.
