What it is

Medical clearance, on the timeline your surgery needs

When your surgeon requires clearance before a scheduled procedure, timing matters. A delay can push your surgery date and disrupt your recovery plan. TrufaMED runs efficient, complete pre-op evaluations that meet the requirements of surgeons and surgical centers across Miami-Dade, with most testing finished in a single visit.

Your visit covers a full medical history review, a physician physical exam, and the diagnostic testing your surgeon ordered. Depending on your history and the procedure, that can include blood work (complete blood count, metabolic panel, coagulation studies), an EKG, a chest X-ray on our on-site digital imaging, and urinalysis. Because the lab and imaging are under one roof at a Joint Commission-accredited, CLIA-certified facility, most results are ready the same day, and your clearance letter goes straight to your surgical team.

What is included

Every component your surgeon asks for

A pre-op clearance is only as good as the documentation behind it. Each component below is performed on-site, interpreted by a physician, and written into the clearance letter your surgical team receives.

Physical examination

A comprehensive physician exam assessing your cardiovascular, respiratory, and overall fitness for anesthesia and surgery, documented in a clearance report your surgeon can act on.

Blood work and labs

Standard pre-surgical labs including a complete blood count, comprehensive metabolic panel, and PT/INR coagulation studies, plus any additional panels your surgeon requires.

Most results same day

EKG and cardiac screening

An on-site electrocardiogram to evaluate heart rhythm and surface any cardiac concern before anesthesia, interpreted by our physicians and included in your clearance documentation.

Chest X-ray when indicated

When your surgical team requires it, our on-site digital X-ray captures immediate imaging to assess lung and cardiac status, with no separate radiology appointment to schedule.

If required

Medication review

A careful review of every prescription, supplement, and over-the-counter product you take, to flag anything that should be paused before surgery, such as blood thinners or anti-inflammatories.

Clearance documentation

A detailed clearance letter that records your exam findings, lab and EKG results, and overall medical fitness, which is everything your surgical team needs to move ahead with confidence.

Why TrufaMED

Clearance read by a physician who has been in the operating room

Most pre-op clearances are signed off by a general provider. At TrufaMED, the program is led by Dr. Uri Gedalia, a board-certified general surgeon. He knows precisely what a surgical team and an anesthesiologist need to see, because he has stood on their side of the table.

A surgeon sets the standard

Dr. Gedalia is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He shapes how we assess anesthesia fitness, weigh risk factors, and write a letter surgeons trust without a second request.

Everything in one place

Exam, labs, EKG, and digital X-ray sit inside the clinic. There is no running between a lab, an imaging center, and a separate physician office to gather your paperwork.

Hospital-grade quality

As Florida’s only Joint Commission-accredited urgent care, our standards match those of the hospitals and surgical centers where your procedure will be performed.

Results the same day

Our CLIA-certified lab (CLIA #10D2326945) and in-house imaging return most components the same day, so your surgery date stays on the calendar.

Direct surgeon coordination

If testing turns up something that needs attention, our physicians review it with you and, when appropriate, coordinate directly with your surgeon to decide next steps.

No multi-week wait

You skip the weeks-long wait for a specialist clearance appointment. Walk in seven days a week and leave with most of your documentation in hand.

How it works

From walk-in to cleared, in three steps

Pre-op clearance at TrufaMED is built to be fast and low-stress. Come prepared, see a physician, and let us handle the testing and the paperwork in one place.

Step one

Bring your order

Bring your surgeon’s pre-op order sheet, a list of current medications, and your insurance card. If your surgeon has a specific form or testing requirement, bring that so we order exactly what is needed.

Step two

Exam and testing

Your visit opens with a medical intake and vitals, then a physician exam and the required diagnostics. Because the lab and imaging are on-site, there is no separate trip to a lab or imaging center.

Step three

Same-day clearance

Most patients complete the full process, exam, labs, EKG, and X-ray, in about 60 to 90 minutes. Your clearance letter is typically finalized the same day and sent directly to your surgeon’s office.

Who needs clearance

Clearance for every kind of procedure

We serve patients across Miami-Dade preparing for surgery at local hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and outpatient facilities. Whatever the procedure, we provide the thorough evaluation your surgical team requires.

Elective and orthopedic surgery

Joint replacements, arthroscopy, hernia repairs, and other planned operations that call for documented anesthesia fitness before the date.

Cosmetic and plastic surgery

Miami has a high volume of cosmetic procedures. We work routinely with local plastic surgeons and surgical centers on the required pre-op evaluation and paperwork.

Cardiac and vascular procedures

Interventions where cardiac and respiratory screening matter most, evaluated with an EKG and labs and reviewed against your history before anesthesia.

Dental sedation and oral surgery

Clearance for procedures performed under sedation or general anesthesia in a dental or oral-surgery setting, coordinated with the treating office.

Who clears you

Led by a surgeon and an ER physician

Your clearance is performed by board-certified physicians who understand the surgical and anesthesia requirements behind every pre-op order. A board-certified physician leads every shift.

Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Uri Gedalia, MD, FACS
Board-Certified General Surgeon · Fellow, American College of Surgeons

Dr. Gedalia earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University and completed his surgical residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York. He leads the clinical and clearance program and serves as Regional Chief Medical Officer for a surgical and wound-care group. His surgical background means a pre-op clearance is read by someone who knows exactly what the operating room needs.

Medical Director
Dr. Shane D. Naidoo, MD
Board-Certified Emergency Medicine · AHA Heart Saver Hero

Dr. Naidoo brings extensive adult and pediatric emergency, trauma, and critical-care experience from high-volume emergency departments across the East Coast. His training means cardiac and respiratory findings are read with the urgency and judgment of a physician used to making fast, accurate calls.

TrufaMED carries Joint Commission accreditation, a distinction held by only eight urgent care centers in the United States and the only one in Florida. It is the same standard applied to major hospitals, and it governs how every clearance is run, read, and documented.

Meet the clinical team

Pre-op clearance, answered

What patients across Miami, Miami Beach, Surfside, and Aventura ask before scheduling clearance.

How far in advance should I schedule pre-op clearance?

Most surgeons require clearance within 30 days of the procedure, and some want it within 7 to 14 days. We recommend booking at least one week before surgery so there is time for any follow-up testing if something needs a second look. Walk-ins are accepted seven days a week, but reserving a slot ahead ensures we have time for every test your surgeon ordered.

What should I bring to my pre-op appointment?

Bring your surgeon’s pre-op order form or requirements, a complete list of your current medications and supplements, your insurance card, and any relevant records such as recent labs or specialist notes. If your surgeon has a specific clearance form they want completed, bring that too. Having the order in hand lets us run exactly what is needed and skip repeat visits.

Can I complete pre-op clearance in a single visit?

In most cases, yes. Because our laboratory, EKG, and digital X-ray are all on-site, we can perform the physical exam and the standard pre-op testing and finalize your clearance in one visit. Most patients are in and out in about 60 to 90 minutes. Certain specialized blood tests sent to outside reference labs may take 1 to 2 business days to return.

Does insurance cover pre-op clearance?

Pre-op clearance is a self-pay service. We do not bill it to insurance, including Medicare. You pay a flat price up front and there is no claim, no deductible, and no surprise bill afterward. The all-inclusive clearance package is $650 and covers the physician visit, CBC, CMP, PT/INR, blood beta-hCG, urinalysis, and EKG.

How much does pre-op clearance cost without insurance?

The all-inclusive pre-op clearance package is $650. It covers the physician clearance visit, a complete blood count, a comprehensive metabolic panel, PT/INR, a blood beta-hCG, a urinalysis, and an EKG, with results sent directly to your surgeon’s office. Priced individually, the physician visit is $200 and an EKG is $110. A chest X-ray is $320 for up to 2 views and includes the physician interpretation. Any additional panel your surgeon orders is quoted before it is drawn. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

What tests are included in a pre-operative evaluation?

A pre-op clearance generally includes a physician history and physical, a complete blood count, a comprehensive metabolic panel, and PT/INR coagulation studies, plus an EKG to assess heart rhythm before anesthesia. A chest X-ray is added when your surgical team requires it. We also review every medication and supplement you take, then issue a clearance letter documenting the findings. The exact panel follows your surgeon’s order.

Do you clear patients for cosmetic and dental surgery?

Yes. We provide clearance for the full range of procedures: orthopedic, cardiac, general, and elective surgery, cosmetic and plastic surgery, and procedures performed under dental sedation. Miami has a high volume of cosmetic surgery, and we routinely work with local plastic surgeons, oral surgeons, and ambulatory surgical centers to provide the pre-op evaluation and documentation they require.

Will you send the clearance directly to my surgeon?

Yes. Once your evaluation is complete and every result is finalized, we can fax or electronically send your clearance documentation straight to your surgeon’s office, and you receive a copy for your own records. The letter documents your physical exam findings, lab and EKG results, medication review, and overall fitness for anesthesia, which is everything the surgical team needs to proceed.

Why have a surgeon oversee my pre-op clearance?

Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Uri Gedalia, is a board-certified general surgeon, so the clearance is run by a physician who has stood on the operating-room side of the process and knows exactly what surgeons and anesthesiologists look for. That perspective shapes how we assess cardiac and respiratory fitness, flag medications like blood thinners, and write a letter your surgical team can act on with confidence.
