Fast, thorough pre-participation physical exams for student athletes, recreational sports, and competitive leagues. Walk-in or book online at TrufaMED Urgent Care.
Every student athlete needs a sports physical before they can take the field, court, or pool. In Florida, pre-participation physical evaluations (PPEs) are required by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) for all middle school and high school athletes, and most youth recreational leagues have similar requirements. At TrufaMED, we make sports physicals fast, easy, and comprehensive — so your child can get cleared and get back to the sport they love.
Our sports physical goes beyond checking a box on a form. A board-certified physician evaluates your child's cardiovascular health, musculoskeletal fitness, respiratory function, and overall readiness to participate in their sport. We screen for conditions that could put an athlete at risk during physical activity — including heart murmurs, joint instability, asthma, and concussion history — and provide guidance on injury prevention, proper conditioning, and when to seek medical attention during the season.
TrufaMED is particularly well-equipped for sports physicals because we have on-site digital X-ray capabilities. If your athlete has a concerning musculoskeletal finding during the exam — a previously injured knee, a tender shoulder, or a suspected stress fracture — we can obtain imaging immediately without referring to a separate facility. This means faster answers and, when appropriate, faster return to play.
Heart and lung auscultation, blood pressure assessment, and screening for murmurs, arrhythmias, and other cardiac conditions that could pose risks during intense physical activity.
Assessment of joints, muscles, flexibility, and structural alignment to identify existing injuries, instability, or conditions that may require treatment or accommodation before athletic participation.
Basic visual acuity screening to ensure your athlete can see clearly enough for safe participation, particularly important for sports involving balls, teammates, and fast-moving play.
Detailed review of any previous head injuries, concussions, and neurological symptoms to establish a baseline and ensure safe return-to-play protocols are in place.
Thorough review of chronic conditions, allergies, medications, and family history of sudden cardiac events to identify athletes who may need additional evaluation before clearance.
We complete all required Florida High School Athletic Association forms during your visit. Your athlete leaves with a signed, dated physical form ready to submit to their school or league.
In Florida, sports physicals are valid for one year from the date of the exam and must be completed on the FHSAA EL2 form. Bring this form to your appointment — if you do not have one, we keep copies at the clinic. Your child's physical should be performed before the start of their sport season, and we recommend scheduling early to avoid the back-to-school rush when wait times tend to increase.
Parents or guardians must be present (or provide signed consent) for athletes under 18. During the visit, our provider may ask your child about their exercise tolerance, any symptoms they experience during physical activity (chest pain, lightheadedness, shortness of breath), and their injury history. Honest answers help us identify potential issues before they become emergencies on the field.
If your athlete does not pass their physical due to a medical finding, it is not the end of the road. Our providers will explain the concern, recommend any necessary follow-up testing or specialist referral, and work with you to get your child cleared as quickly and safely as possible. At TrufaMED, we want your kids playing sports — we just want them doing it safely. Walk in any day of the week or book online to get ahead of the line.
