Amino Acid IV Therapy.
20 amino acids. 9 essential. Delivered directly into your bloodstream at 100% bioavailability — physician-formulated, medical-grade, and administered by our clinical team in Surfside or at your door across South Florida.
Results vary. IV therapy is a wellness and supportive care service and does not replace diagnosis or medical treatment.
What is amino acid IV therapy?
Amino acid IV therapy delivers essential and non-essential amino acids — the building blocks of every protein in your body — directly into the bloodstream, bypassing digestive absorption entirely and achieving concentrations that oral supplements cannot match. At TrufaMED, our physician-formulated amino drips support muscle recovery, energy metabolism, immune defense, and cellular repair. Sessions run 30–60 minutes; in-clinic starts at $225.
What are amino acids?
Amino acids are organic compounds that serve as the primary structural units of every protein in the human body. There are 20 standard amino acids used in human biochemistry, and they are the foundation of virtually every biological process — from building muscle tissue and synthesizing hormones to producing neurotransmitters and fueling cellular energy pathways.
Of the 20 amino acids, 9 are classified as essential: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. The body cannot synthesize these on its own — they must come from diet or supplementation. The remaining 11 are non-essential (produced endogenously) or conditionally essential, meaning demand can outpace production during illness, intense training, or surgical recovery.
The branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) — leucine, isoleucine, and valine — are especially critical for athletes and active individuals. Leucine in particular is the primary trigger for muscle protein synthesis, the cellular process that repairs and builds muscle fibers after exertion.
Beyond muscle, amino acids regulate neurotransmitter production (tryptophan converts to serotonin; tyrosine to dopamine and norepinephrine), support liver detoxification pathways, maintain gut mucosal integrity, and contribute to the synthesis of glutathione — the body’s master antioxidant.
- Protein synthesis — Every structural and functional protein in the body is assembled from amino acids
- Energy metabolism — Glucogenic and ketogenic amino acids feed the Krebs cycle when carbohydrate stores are depleted
- Neurotransmitter production — Tryptophan, tyrosine, and phenylalanine are direct precursors to serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine
- Immune defense — Glutamine is the primary fuel source for lymphocytes and intestinal epithelial cells
- Connective tissue repair — Glycine, proline, and lysine are essential for collagen cross-linking and wound healing
- Antioxidant defense — Cysteine, glutamate, and glycine are the three precursors to glutathione
- Fat oxidation — L-carnitine shuttles long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondrial matrix for ATP production
- Cardiovascular support — Arginine is the direct precursor to nitric oxide, a potent vasodilator
- Gut integrity — Glutamine maintains the epithelial tight junctions that prevent intestinal permeability
Why IV amino acids outperform oral?
Oral amino acid supplements must survive the gastrointestinal tract, liver first-pass metabolism, and intestinal absorption limits before reaching systemic circulation. IV delivery eliminates every one of these barriers.
| Factor | Oral Supplements | TrufaMED IV Amino Drip |
|---|---|---|
| Bioavailability | 30–50% (varies by form, food, gut health) | ✓ 100% — directly into bloodstream |
| Onset of action | 60–120 minutes post-ingestion | ✓ Minutes — peaks during infusion |
| Dose precision | Pill/powder dosing is approximate | ✓ Exact mg per amino acid, physician-set |
| GI tolerance | GI upset common at therapeutic doses | ✓ Zero GI exposure — IV bypasses entirely |
| Co-nutrient delivery | Amino acid only, no co-factors | ✓ Combined with B-vitamins, electrolytes, fluids |
| Physician oversight | ✗ None | ✓ Board-certified physician formulation + clinical staff |
The clinical literature consistently shows that IV amino acid delivery achieves plasma concentrations 3–5x higher than equivalent oral doses — particularly relevant during acute recovery, post-surgical states, and high-intensity training periods where anabolic windows are narrow and demand is elevated.
Amino acids in our physician formulas.
TrufaMED’s IV formulas are developed and overseen by our board-certified physicians. Below are the primary amino acids featured across our menu — each selected for a specific physiological role.
L-Carnitine
L-carnitine is a conditionally essential amino acid derivative that acts as the primary transporter of long-chain fatty acids across the inner mitochondrial membrane. Without sufficient carnitine, fat cannot enter the mitochondria for oxidation. IV delivery saturates skeletal muscle carnitine stores rapidly — a target that oral carnitine achieves only partially. Athletes and individuals seeking improved body composition or endurance benefit most. Featured in our Superstar and Post Workout drips.
Glutamine
Glutamine is the most abundant free amino acid in human plasma and the primary fuel source for rapidly dividing cells — particularly enterocytes (intestinal lining cells) and lymphocytes (immune cells). Under physiological stress — intense exercise, illness, surgery — plasma glutamine can drop 50% or more, impairing gut barrier function and immune competence simultaneously. IV glutamine restores these stores faster than any oral route and is especially valuable in post-surgical and post-illness recovery contexts.
Arginine
L-arginine is the direct biosynthetic precursor to nitric oxide (NO) — the endogenous vasodilator that relaxes smooth muscle in blood vessel walls, increasing blood flow to working tissue. This mechanism underlies arginine’s popularity among athletes (improved muscle pump, oxygen delivery) and its clinical use in cardiovascular support protocols. IV arginine bypasses intestinal first-pass catabolism, which significantly limits oral bioavailability, producing more reliable NO-pathway activation.
Taurine
Taurine is a sulfonic acid conditionally classified with amino acids due to its structural role. It is among the most abundant intracellular amino acids in the heart, skeletal muscle, and central nervous system. Taurine modulates intracellular calcium handling (critical for cardiac contractility), acts as an osmolyte to regulate cell volume, and exhibits antioxidant properties in mitochondria. It is a cornerstone ingredient in our Superstar blend for its cardiovascular and cellular hydration effects.
Glycine
Glycine is the simplest amino acid and one of the most versatile. It is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system — contributing to improved sleep quality and reduced core body temperature at night. Structurally, glycine is one of three amino acids required for collagen synthesis, making it essential for tendon, ligament, cartilage, and skin integrity. In the liver, glycine conjugates with bile acids and xenobiotics (foreign compounds) to facilitate their excretion. IV glycine supports multiple systems simultaneously.
BCAAs (Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine)
The branched-chain amino acids are unique among essential amino acids in that they are metabolized primarily in skeletal muscle rather than the liver — making them immediately available for anabolic signaling at the site of exercise damage. Leucine activates the mTORC1 pathway, the master regulator of muscle protein synthesis. Isoleucine promotes glucose uptake into muscle cells. Valine contributes to energy during endurance work. Together, BCAAs reduce exercise-induced muscle damage, accelerate recovery, and preserve lean mass during caloric restriction. Core to our Post Workout Recovery IV.
Lysine
Lysine is an essential amino acid that functions as a critical cross-linking agent in collagen and elastin. It is hydroxylated in connective tissue to form hydroxylysine, which creates the stable intermolecular bridges that give collagen its tensile strength. Lysine also competes with arginine at the cellular uptake level, which has implications for viral replication. Athletes recovering from tissue injuries and individuals with connective tissue concerns benefit from IV lysine alongside other collagen co-factors.
Methionine
Methionine is an essential sulfur-containing amino acid and the initiating amino acid in every protein synthesis sequence. Its most critical metabolic role is as the primary methyl donor — via its metabolite S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) — supporting DNA methylation, neurotransmitter synthesis, and epigenetic regulation. Methionine also serves as a precursor to cysteine, which in turn is the rate-limiting building block for glutathione. Adequate methionine status is foundational to both liver health and antioxidant capacity.
Tryptophan
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid and the exclusive dietary precursor to serotonin — the neurotransmitter central to mood regulation, appetite, and sleep-wake cycles. Serotonin is subsequently converted to melatonin in the pineal gland, linking tryptophan availability directly to sleep quality and circadian rhythm stability. Tryptophan is also catabolized through the kynurenine pathway, which produces NAD+ — linking it to cellular energy metabolism. Stress, poor sleep, and intense exercise all deplete tryptophan faster than the diet can replenish it.

Contact Our TeamWho benefits from amino IV therapy?
Amino acid IV therapy is appropriate for a wide range of patients — from competitive athletes to individuals managing fatigue, recovery, or surgical healing.
Athletes & High-Intensity Trainers
Individuals training at high volumes deplete BCAAs and glutamine faster than diet can replenish. IV amino delivery directly after training saturates muscle tissue during the anabolic window, reducing DOMS and accelerating return-to-performance timelines.
Post-Surgical Recovery
Surgery creates a catabolic state in which the body breaks down muscle and connective tissue for amino acid substrate. Physician-directed amino IV therapy in the post-operative period supports collagen synthesis, immune competence, and lean mass preservation. Always coordinated with your surgical team.
Chronic Fatigue & Low Energy
Persistent fatigue often correlates with depleted mitochondrial substrates — including L-carnitine and the amino acids that feed the Krebs cycle. Amino IV therapy provides the raw materials for ATP production, often resulting in noticeable energy improvement within 24–48 hours of infusion.
Recovery-Focused Executives
High-output professionals under sustained cognitive and physical stress benefit from amino IV therapy as a biweekly or monthly recovery protocol. Amino acids support neurotransmitter production, stress hormone regulation, and the cellular repair processes that insufficient sleep and chronic stress impair.
Gut Health & Immune Support
Glutamine is the primary fuel of intestinal epithelial cells. IV glutamine supplementation is used clinically to support gut mucosal integrity — particularly relevant for individuals with history of GI inflammation, frequent illness, or antibiotic use. Combined with the immune benefits of lysine and arginine, amino IVs offer meaningful support for immune-compromised periods.
Concierge & Longevity Patients
Patients enrolled in TrufaMED’s concierge medicine program incorporate amino IV therapy into quarterly or monthly longevity protocols alongside HBOT, NAD+, and periodic laboratory monitoring to track biomarkers of amino acid status and metabolic health.

Your session experience.
Every TrufaMED IV session is calm, clinical, and efficient — delivered in our boutique IV lounge in Surfside by registered nurses under physician oversight.
Step 1: Intake & Health Screen
A brief intake form and verbal health screen ensures amino IV therapy is appropriate for you. Our clinical staff reviews any contraindications — kidney disease, certain metabolic conditions — before proceeding.
Step 2: IV Placement
A registered nurse places a small-gauge IV catheter — typically in the antecubital fossa (inner elbow) or forearm. Most patients feel a brief pinch; the placement takes under 90 seconds.
Step 3: Infusion (30–60 min)
Your amino drip infuses at a controlled rate while you relax in our IV lounge. Complimentary red light therapy runs simultaneously for in-clinic sessions. Most patients use this time to work, read, or simply rest.
Step 4: Post-Infusion & Discharge
The IV is removed and a brief post-infusion check confirms you feel well. Most patients leave immediately and return to normal activity. Some notice an energy lift during the infusion; full recovery benefit develops over the following 12–48 hours.
