About the test

Find out exactly what is triggering your symptoms

Millions of people manage allergies with over-the-counter antihistamines and guesswork, never learning what actually sets off their reactions. Without accurate testing you can spend years avoiding the wrong foods or blaming the wrong things at home. A comprehensive allergy panel gives you definitive answers so you can act on the real cause.

At TrufaMED in Surfside, allergy testing is done through a simple blood draw that screens for a wide range of environmental and food allergens. Unlike skin-prick testing, which can be uncomfortable and requires you to stop certain medications first, blood-based testing is painless, convenient, and unaffected by the allergy medications you already take. The panel covers common triggers including dust mites, mold, pet dander, pollen, grass, trees, shellfish, dairy, egg, nuts, wheat, and soy, all from a single sample collected during a quick office visit.

Once your results are in, a board-certified physician reviews them with you in detail, explains the severity of each reaction, and provides clear recommendations for avoidance, dietary changes, and treatment. Whether you have dealt with chronic congestion, unexplained rashes, digestive issues after meals, or seasonal symptoms that never improve, the goal is the same: real clarity about what affects you. We serve patients from Surfside, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Miami Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, and the greater North Miami Beach area. See all testing services.

The process

Fast, comfortable, and built to act on

Four steps, from your first conversation to a plan you can actually follow.

Physician consultation

A TrufaMED physician reviews your symptoms, history, and lifestyle to choose the right allergy panel for your situation.

Single blood draw

A certified phlebotomist draws one sample in a few minutes at our Surfside clinic. No skin pricks, no stopping your antihistamines, no special preparation.

Lab analysis

Your sample goes to a certified laboratory partner, where it is analyzed for IgE antibody responses across hundreds of specific allergens.

Personalized plan

Results come back in 5 to 7 business days. Your physician reviews every finding and creates an avoidance and treatment plan made for you.

Common signs

Could allergies be behind your symptoms?

Allergies can mimic many other conditions. If any of these are a regular part of your life, testing can help identify the cause.

Chronic sneezing and congestion

Persistent sneezing or a runny, stuffy nose that a cold does not explain.

Itchy, watery eyes

Red, irritated, or swollen eyes, especially outdoors or around animals.

Wheezing and coughing

Shortness of breath, wheezing, or a persistent cough that is often worse at night.

Skin reactions

Hives, eczema, rashes, or unexplained itching after food or environmental exposure.

Digestive issues

Bloating, cramping, nausea, or diarrhea that follows certain foods.

Sinus pressure and headaches

Recurring sinus pain or facial pressure that worsens with the seasons.

Who should test

Allergy testing makes sense for

Seasonal allergy sufferers. If your symptoms flare in spring, summer, or fall, you may have seasonal pollen allergies. Testing identifies exactly which pollens trigger you.

Year-round, indoor sufferers. Symptoms that are worse at home or work can point to dust mites, mold, or pet dander. Testing pinpoints the cause.

Suspected food reactions. Hives, swelling, or digestive trouble after eating can be confirmed or ruled out as an IgE-mediated food allergy.

Children and families. Allergies often start in childhood. If your child has eczema, asthma, or recurrent ear infections, testing can reveal hidden triggers. Early answers lead to better treatment. Learn about urgent care for the whole family.

An active, outdoor lifestyle. South Florida’s climate means high pollen and mold counts year-round, so athletes and outdoor enthusiasts gain a lot from knowing their specific triggers.

A poor response to medication. If antihistamines and nasal sprays are not giving you relief, identifying your exact allergens opens the door to targeted treatment, including allergen immunotherapy.

After your results

A plan built around you

Once your allergens are identified, your physician puts together a treatment plan that fits your life. It may include any of the following.

Allergen avoidance strategy

Specific, practical guidance on avoiding your confirmed triggers, from dietary changes to home and environmental adjustments tailored to South Florida living.

Targeted medication plan

No more guessing which antihistamine or nasal spray to try. Your physician recommends the most effective options for your allergen profile and symptom severity.

Referral for immunotherapy

For significant allergies, we can refer you to an allergist. Allergy shots and sublingual drops are the only treatments that reduce sensitivity over time.

Allergy testing pairs naturally with the rest of our diagnostic work. Explore on-site digital X-ray and our preventive care programs for annual screenings.

Your physicians

A physician reviews and explains every result

Your panel is not a number on a portal. A board-certified TrufaMED physician interprets the findings, prioritizes what matters for your symptoms, and walks you through the plan.

Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Uri Gedalia, MD, FACS
Board-Certified General Surgeon · Fellow, American College of Surgeons

Dr. Gedalia earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University and completed his surgical residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York. He leads clinical standards across the practice, so testing is held to the same rigor as every other service at TrufaMED.

Medical Director
Dr. Shane D. Naidoo, MD
Board-Certified Emergency Medicine · AHA Heart Saver Hero

Dr. Naidoo brings extensive adult and pediatric emergency and critical-care experience from high-volume emergency departments across the East Coast. That depth means your results are read by a physician who understands the full clinical picture, not just the lab values.

This physician-first approach is why TrufaMED carries Joint Commission accreditation, a distinction held by only eight urgent care centers in the United States. It is the same standard applied to major hospitals, and our CLIA-certified lab (CLIA #10D2326945) runs under it.

Meet the clinical team

Allergy testing, answered

What patients across Surfside, Miami Beach, Bal Harbour, and Sunny Isles ask before booking.

What is the difference between a blood allergy test and a skin-prick test?

A skin-prick test introduces tiny amounts of allergens into the skin and measures the reaction. The blood test used at TrufaMED measures IgE antibodies in your blood for specific allergens. Blood testing is equally accurate, needs no special preparation, does not require you to stop antihistamines, and is more comfortable, which matters for children and anyone with sensitive skin.

Do I need to stop taking antihistamines before the test?

No. Because the testing is blood-based rather than skin-based, you can keep taking antihistamines, nasal sprays, and other allergy medications right up to your appointment. Not having to stop your medication is one of the main advantages of blood testing over the skin-prick method.

What is the difference between a food allergy and a food intolerance?

A food allergy involves an immune-system response (IgE antibodies) and can cause anything from hives and swelling to anaphylaxis. A food intolerance, such as lactose intolerance, does not involve the immune system and usually causes digestive symptoms. The allergy blood test identifies IgE-mediated food allergies. If you suspect an intolerance, your physician can discuss other testing options during your visit.

How long does it take to get results?

Results are typically ready within 5 to 7 business days. A TrufaMED physician contacts you to schedule a review appointment, walks through every finding, and builds your personalized treatment and avoidance plan.

Can children be tested for allergies?

Yes. Allergy testing is appropriate for children of all ages. Identifying allergies early, especially in children with eczema, asthma, or recurrent ear infections, can improve quality of life and head off longer-term problems. Our team cares for children every day and the single blood draw is gentler than skin-prick testing for young patients.

Is allergy testing covered by insurance?

Many plans cover allergy testing when there is a clinical reason for it. We accept most major insurance. Call (305) 537-6396 before your appointment and our team will help verify your benefits so you know what to expect ahead of time.

What happens if I test positive for several allergens?

Testing positive for more than one allergen is common. Your TrufaMED physician prioritizes the results that matter most for your symptoms and builds a practical plan you can actually follow. When allergies are significant, your physician may refer you to an allergist for immunotherapy.

Where does TrufaMED draw blood and run the allergy panel?

The blood draw takes a few minutes at our Surfside clinic at 9445 Harding Ave, performed by a certified phlebotomist. The sample is analyzed by a certified laboratory partner for IgE antibody responses across hundreds of specific allergens. Your results are then reviewed and explained by a board-certified TrufaMED physician.

How much does allergy testing cost at TrufaMED?

We keep pricing transparent with self-pay options and no hidden fees, and the physician consultation is included. Because many insurance plans cover allergy testing, the right number depends on your coverage. Call (305) 537-6396 and our team will confirm pricing and verify your benefits before you book.
