Physicals

Yes. Sports and school physicals are by appointment, seven days a week. Call (305) 537-6396 and we will find you a time. Most families are in and out in about half an hour. Camp, college, and work physicals are still walk-in, and the immigration (USCIS I-693) exam is scheduled separately.

Most sports and school physicals take 20 to 30 minutes from check-in to walking out with a signed form. Total time, including any short wait, is usually under an hour. Coming prepared with the blank form and a current medication list keeps the visit moving.

Self-pay for sports and camp physicals is a flat $200, with no surprise add-on fees for a routine exam. Through October 1 that price also covers the EKG required by the FHSAA EL1 form. A child’s non-sports school entry physical is different: that is the Florida DH 3040 exam, it is $125 for ages 4 to 18 through October 1, it is by appointment only, and it does not include an EKG or the FHSAA forms. Bring the blank form from the school, league, or the Florida High School Athletic Association and a photo ID. A minor must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A current medication list and immunization record help the physician complete the form accurately.

Yes. Our physicians complete and sign the FHSAA preparticipation forms (EL1, EL2, and EL3), the AAP preparticipation forms, and most Miami-Dade school district health forms at the visit. The physical, EL2, and EL3 go home with you at the visit, and our medical director signs the EL1 ECG interpretation.

Most likely, yes. Under the Second Chance Act, effective July 1, 2026, the FHSAA EL1 form has to document an electrocardiogram before a student takes part in tryouts, practice, or competition. It applies to every incoming ninth grader for the 2026-27 school year and to any student in grades ten through twelve who has never played a high school FHSAA sport. Returning high school athletes are exempt, though the FHSAA encourages the screening for them too. TrufaMED runs the EKG on site and includes it with the $200 sports physical.

It does not have to be repeated every year. An electrocardiogram completed within two years prior to July 1 of the participation year satisfies the state requirement. The preparticipation physical is the part that expires, 365 calendar days from the date of the exam, so the EL2 comes around each season even when the EKG does not. If the tracing is abnormal, participation stops until a physician gives written clearance.

No, and it is important to know the difference. A sports physical (a preparticipation evaluation) is focused on whether it is safe for your child to play: history, vitals, a heart and lung check, and a musculoskeletal screen. It does not replace a complete annual wellness visit with your pediatrician, which covers growth, development, immunizations, and broader preventive care. We are glad to do both.

Sudden cardiac events in young athletes are rare but serious, and the preparticipation exam is the main chance to catch a warning sign early. Our physicians listen to the heart and lungs, check pulse and rhythm, and ask the standardized screening questions about fainting, chest pain with exertion, and family history of early cardiac death. Anything concerning is flagged before clearance, with a referral when warranted.

Yes. We complete summer camp and sleepaway camp health forms, including allergy and medication documentation, immunization verification, and camp-specific clearance, signed the same day. Camp physicals stay walk-in and are done in a single visit.

Yes. We stock and administer most pediatric school-required vaccines, including Tdap, MMR, hepatitis A and B, varicella, meningococcal, and HPV, and we can update your Florida 680 immunization form at the visit. Bringing the existing immunization record helps us record everything correctly.
