Clinical HBOT, a short drive from Aventura

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBOT, is a physician-supervised treatment in which you breathe 100% pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The added pressure dissolves far more oxygen into your blood plasma than breathing room air ever could, and that oxygen reaches tissues that struggle to heal when blood flow is limited. The result is a measurable boost to the body’s own repair processes, used for post-surgery recovery, wound healing, concussion and brain injury, and athletic recovery.

For Aventura, that therapy lives at TrufaMED in nearby Surfside, about a fourteen-minute drive down Biscayne Boulevard. HBOT here is delivered under physician supervision at our Joint Commission-accredited clinic, not an unsupervised wellness-center setting. Every patient is examined and cleared by a physician first, and every session is supervised, in the same Joint Commission-accredited facility that houses our on-site digital X-ray, labs, and IV therapy.

Why TrufaMED

Why Aventura chooses TrufaMED for HBOT

Aventura is built around high-rise living on the Intracoastal, from Williams Island and Turnberry to the towers along Biscayne Boulevard. Residents here want efficient, high-quality care without a hospital waiting room. That is the gap our hyperbaric program fills.

Aventura Hospital is the right call for a true emergency. For planned hyperbaric therapy, recovery, and wellness, a private clinical suite serves you better. At TrufaMED you skip the crowded emergency department, see a physician on every visit, and have on-site digital X-ray, labs, and IV therapy a few steps away. Many Aventura patients pair HBOT with our concierge membership or mobile IV delivery, so their care travels with them.

Aventura is also home to a large Brazilian and Latin American community, and our team speaks eight languages. You can talk through your protocol, your history, and your questions with a physician in the language you are most comfortable in.

Your visit

How an HBOT session works

From the exam that clears you for therapy to the moment you walk out, here is what to expect at the Surfside suite.

Exam and clearance

Your first visit includes a physical exam and an on-site chest X-ray. Your physician reviews your history and confirms HBOT is safe and appropriate for you.

Settle into the chamber

You change into loose cotton clothing and leave electronics and jewelry outside. You lie comfortably in the soft-shell chamber, free to rest, read, or sleep.

Pressure and pure oxygen

The chamber pressurizes to 1.6 ATA while you breathe 100% pure oxygen. You may feel a mild ear fullness that clears like it does on a plane.

Recover and head home

A session runs 60 to 90 minutes with no downtime. Most patients feel relaxed and drive straight back to Aventura, following the session count their physician set.

The mechanism

What pressure and pure oxygen actually do

HBOT is a precise physiological intervention, not a wellness trend. Pressure and protocol design are what separate a clinical outcome from a placebo.

Hyperoxygenation

Under pressure, oxygen dissolves directly into your blood plasma. Plasma oxygen can rise to many times its resting level, saturating tissues that red blood cells cannot reach when an area is inflamed or low on blood flow.

New blood vessels

Sustained high oxygen levels signal the body to build new capillary networks, a process called neovascularization. Better local circulation is what carries healing forward long after a session ends.

Less inflammation

Hyperbaric oxygen quiets the inflammatory cascade that drives swelling, bruising, and chronic pain, which is why it pairs so well with surgical recovery and injury rehab.

Better tissue repair

More available oxygen accelerates the body’s natural wound-healing machinery, supporting faster repair after surgery, injury, or intense training. Many patients pair HBOT with IV therapy for recovery.

Sharper recovery for the brain

Greater oxygen perfusion supports the brain’s neuroprotective pathways. It is one reason HBOT is studied for concussion, brain injury, and cognitive recovery.

Support for stubborn wounds

For diabetic and slow-healing wounds, the extra oxygen reaches tissue that limited blood flow has left behind, which is why hospital wound-care centers rely on the same hard-chamber therapy.

Not all chambers are equal

Why a hard clinical chamber matters

The chamber you sit in determines what your body actually receives. The real clinical difference is physician evaluation and supervision on every session at a Joint Commission-accredited clinic, not an unsupervised home or wellness device.

TrufaMED clinical HBOT

  • Physician-supervised soft-shell chamber
  • 1.6 ATA on 100% oxygen (hard-shell 3.0 ATA arriving late August 2026)
  • 100% pure oxygen delivered to the patient
  • Physician exam and clearance before therapy
  • Every session supervised at an accredited facility

Unsupervised spa or home units

  • No physician evaluation or supervision
  • Much lower pressure, near sea-level air
  • Ambient air rather than pure oxygen
  • Often no medical screening
  • Typically unsupervised, no clinical oversight
Conditions and uses

What HBOT supports

HBOT is used across a range of recovery and wellness goals. Explore a dedicated condition page, or ask your physician whether HBOT fits your situation.

Who benefits

Who a full HBOT protocol helps most

These are the patterns our physicians see most often among Aventura patients, each with its own protocol rationale.

Surgical patients

Patients before and after elective cosmetic, orthopedic, or reconstructive surgery. A common protocol builds oxygen reserves beforehand, then supports tissue repair and reduces swelling afterward.

Athletes and active adults

Competitive and amateur athletes recovering from injury or heavy training, who want faster tissue repair and less inflammation between sessions.

Slow-healing wounds

Patients with stubborn or diabetic wounds, where added oxygen reaches tissue that limited blood flow has left behind. See wound healing.

Brain injury recovery

People recovering from concussion or other brain injury, exploring HBOT for cognition and neuroprotection under physician guidance. See concussion care.

Long COVID and fatigue

Patients with lingering post-viral symptoms and fatigue who are looking for a structured, physician-supervised recovery approach.

Cosmetic procedure recovery

Patients after aesthetic procedures who want a private, discreet setting and faster resolution of bruising and swelling.

For non-life-threatening recovery and wellness needs. HBOT is not a substitute for emergency care. For a true emergency, call 911 or go to Aventura Hospital.

Safety first

When HBOT may need to wait

A few conditions can rule out therapy or require treatment first. This is exactly why the required exam and on-site chest X-ray come before your first session.

An untreated collapsed lung, certain lung diseases, and active sinus or ear congestion may prevent therapy until they are addressed. Some medications and recent treatments also need review. Your physician examines you, reviews your history, and gives you a clear answer before any session begins. That medical clearance is built into the $300 first visit, and it is what makes TrufaMED HBOT a clinical treatment rather than a spa add-on.

Physician oversight

The physicians overseeing your session

Your HBOT is directed by two board-certified physicians whose combined experience spans general surgery, emergency medicine, trauma, and wound care.

Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Uri Gedalia, MD, FACS
Board-Certified General Surgeon · Fellow, American College of Surgeons

Dr. Gedalia earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University and completed his surgical residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York. He serves as Regional Chief Medical Officer for a surgical and wound-care program, experience that shapes how TrufaMED designs HBOT protocols for surgical and wound recovery.

Medical Director
Dr. Shane D. Naidoo, MD
Board-Certified Emergency Medicine · AHA Heart Saver Hero

Dr. Naidoo brings extensive adult and pediatric emergency, trauma, and critical-care experience from high-volume emergency departments across the East Coast. His training means HBOT patients are screened and supervised by a physician who has handled the most acute clinical situations.

This physician-first standard is why TrufaMED carries Joint Commission accreditation, held by only eight urgent care centers in the United States. It is the same standard applied to major hospitals, and it governs every HBOT session.

HBOT questions from Aventura patients

The questions patients across Aventura, Williams Island, Turnberry, and Sunny Isles ask before their first session.

How much does hyperbaric oxygen therapy cost near Aventura?

Your first visit is $300 and includes a full physical exam with an on-site chest X-ray plus your first session. Continuing sessions are $150 each. Our best-value Wellness Package is $1,000 for the evaluation plus 10 sessions, valued at $1,650 if booked individually. No hidden fees.

How far is TrufaMED from Aventura?

About a 14-minute drive. From the Aventura Mall area, head south on Biscayne Boulevard through Sunny Isles Beach, cross the Broad Causeway, then turn onto Harding Avenue. We are at 9445 Harding Ave in Surfside, close enough that most Williams Island and Turnberry residents reach us in well under twenty minutes.

Why would I choose TrufaMED over Aventura Hospital for HBOT?

Aventura Hospital is the right place for an emergency. For planned hyperbaric therapy, recovery, and wellness, our Surfside suite gives you a private soft-shell clinical chamber, physician supervision on every session, and no crowded emergency waiting room. You also get on-site digital X-ray, labs, and IV therapy under one Joint Commission-accredited roof.

Does TrufaMED offer care in languages other than English?

Yes. Our team speaks eight languages, including Spanish and Portuguese, which matters to the many Brazilian and Latin American families who live in Aventura. You can discuss your protocol, your history, and your questions with a physician in the language you are most comfortable with.

What does a typical HBOT session feel like?

Most patients find it deeply relaxing. You lie comfortably in a private pressurized chamber and breathe 100% pure oxygen. As the pressure rises you may feel a mild fullness in your ears, similar to an airplane descent, which clears by swallowing or yawning. Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes, and many patients read, rest, or fall asleep.

What is the difference between a hard chamber and the soft chambers at spas?

TrufaMED uses a physician-supervised, medical-grade soft-shell hyperbaric chamber at 1.6 ATA on 100% oxygen. A hard-shell chamber reaching 3.0 ATA arrives in late August 2026. Our soft-shell chamber operates at 1.6 ATA and delivers 100% pure oxygen under physician supervision; the hard-shell chamber arriving in late August 2026 reaches up to 3.0 ATA. The soft inflatable chambers found at many wellness spas operate at much lower pressure with ambient air, which is a different treatment entirely.

How many HBOT sessions will I need?

It depends on your goal and condition. Some patients notice benefits after a few visits. Chronic conditions and recovery protocols are usually built around a course of sessions, commonly around ten, that your physician sets after your exam. Our 10-session Wellness Package is designed for exactly this kind of plan.

Do I need a referral, and can I just walk in?

No referral is needed. Your first visit includes a comprehensive physical exam and physician evaluation, and that clearance is built into the $300 first session. You can book your intake online or call us. HBOT sessions themselves run by appointment, with same-day booking often available.

Where is TrufaMED’s HBOT center, and who oversees the therapy?

Our hyperbaric suite is at 9445 Harding Ave in Surfside, FL, a short drive from Aventura down Biscayne Boulevard. Therapy is overseen by Dr. Uri Gedalia, a board-certified general surgeon, and Dr. Shane Naidoo, board-certified in emergency medicine, at Florida’s only Joint Commission-accredited urgent care.
